About the Ladder System

How a Box Ladder works:

Each player will be placed in a “box ladder” which contains a list of 4-6 names. The goal will be to play each of the other participants in your ladder sometime within a 4-6 week period. 

How do the matches work?

Matches will be contained to 1 hour in duration. The goal is to play a “pro set” within the 1 hour. A pro set is 8 games. The player that wins 8 games first wins the match. So a winning score might be 8-0, 8-2, 8-6, for example. If the score reaches 7-7 (7 games all), the players will play a 7-point tie breaker to determine the winner. If no player reaches 8 games during the hour, then the player who is leading in games at the end of 1 hour is considered the winner. Match winners are awarded 4 points. Match losers are awarded 1 point. 

How do I schedule my matches?

Players are responsible for organizing and scheduling their own matches. Emails and phone numbers will be shared as part of the ladder information. In this way, players can contact each other and arrange a mutually agreed-upon time to play.  Matches may be played at any location and aren't restricted to the courts at 62 McCaul St. 

How do I record my scores?

After your match is finished, it is the responsibility of the winner to email Nick the score results, with a cc to the loser.

What happens if it’s impossible to find a time to play due to conflicting schedules, etc?

As part of signing up for the ladder, you are agreeing to play at least 3-4 matches a 4-6 week period. It is expected that participants will do their best to find time to play.

What happens at the end of a ladder session?

At the end of a session, players with the most points will move up to the next box for the new session, and the players with the least points will move down a box. Other participants will remain in the same box.
