About the 'Raise the Dome' Proposal

In early spring of 2023, the PHRC was presented with a rare and exciting opportunity to acquire a 4-court tennis dome for use during the fall and winter months. The chance to obtain a used dome in good condition was in large part what made the opportunity so appealing -– for reference, the cost of purchasing and installing a new tennis dome is estimated at between $800,000 to $1 million.
By early in 2024 we were on track to install the dome in fall, however the project stalled unexpectedly when the dome suddenly became unavailable.
The Club continued seeking alternative options to move the project forward, and while the timeline has necessarily changed, the PHRC Board, with the support of the Municipality of Port Hope and Tennis Canada, remain committed to our vision of growing the game of tennis and expanding our facilities to include a fourth court and a dome.
We have now identified a potential used dome that is in excellent condition and available for purchase, as well as an experienced management company prepared to come in as a potential operator. We will require considerably more capital, however, and as such the Club is currently pursuing all potential funding opportunities.
Growing the Game of Tennis in our Community and Beyond
Our team of amazing volunteers have worked tirelessly on this project, and have already laid much of the groundwork necessary to offer year-round tennis that is affordable and accessible in our community. If the 'Raise the Dome' project moves forward successfully, our dome will be the only dedicated, indoor tennis facility in the Northumberland, Quinte, and Peterborough regions. Port Hope will become known as a year-round tennis destination, drawing tennis players (of all ages and from different communities) during the fall and winter.

Support and Excitement is Building for Year-Round Tennis
The “Raise the Dome” proposal has generated tremendous excitement and support from our community and beyond. To date, we have received approximately $140,000 in pledged donations from members and other gifts in kind. We have received support from other tennis clubs and community partners (such as Trinity College School) who see the value of bringing a tennis dome to Port Hope.
